As proud recipients of the 2025 Pasifika Artist in Residence for Palmerston North, Vatu Dei release their debut album during Fijian Language Week and will present a flagship live concert in Palmerston North on 19th December at the Globe Theatre.
Vatu Dei, meaning ‘Steadfast Rock,’ is a collective of talented Fijian artists who celebrate Fijian culture through meke, a traditional form of Fijian song and dance. Vatu Dei uses chants, harmonies, spoken word, and contemporary performance to tell the stories of Fijian legends, love, indigenous history, and everyday life.
New Music Release for Fijian Language Week!
We’re beyond excited to celebrate Fijian Language Week 2025 with the release of Vatu Dei’s debut album, created in collaboration with The KaRs as part of their Creative New Zealand Pasifika Artist Residency in Palmerston North.
This stunning collection of songs celebrates the beauty of iTaukei language, culture, and storytelling, blending traditional harmonies with contemporary sounds to create something truly special for families, schools, and communities.
From heartfelt lullabies to joyful sing-alongs, each track carries the spirit of vanua (land), lotu (faith), and vosa vakaviti (Fijian language) honouring the past while singing proudly into the future.
