Ka Tū, Ka Ora! SOUNZ Community Commission Awarded to Kane Parsons
Ka Tū, Ka Ora – Stand Strong, Live Well is the title of this ambitious project, which brings together rangatahi from across the Manawatū region. Over the next nine months, Kane and his collaborators will work with approximately 200 young people on a multilingual choral composition project that blends te reo Māori, English, and Gagana Samoa to promote resilience and positive mental health outcomes in rangatahi.
Ka Tū, Ka Ora is a powerful new musical and educational project from Hokozoo Productions exploring resilience, well-being, identity, and hope through music, movement, storytelling, and community connection. Grounded in the principles of Te Whare Tapa Whā and inspired by the strength of tamariki, whānau, and diverse cultures across Aotearoa, the work celebrates the idea that even through challenge, we rise stronger together.
Blending contemporary composition, waiata, spoken word, percussion, and theatrical storytelling, Ka Tū, Ka Ora invites audiences on an uplifting journey of courage, healing, and belonging. Developed through workshops with schools, communities, and rangatahi, the project reflects Hokozoo’s commitment to creating meaningful art that inspires conversation, emotional growth, and collective wellbeing.
